Callista Frey wasn’t always a smoothie lover. “I used to think they were just fruit and ice,” she jokes. But when she transitioned to a plant-based lifestyle, smoothies quickly became one of her go-to meals—especially once she discovered how powerful superfoods could be.
Now, smoothies are a daily ritual. “They’re quick, easy, and I can pack in tons of nutrients,” Callista says. Her usual base includes almond milk or oat milk, plus a scoop of vegan protein powder. From there, she adds greens, berries, and small servings of chia seeds, flaxseed, or spirulina.
“I love how adaptable they are,” she adds. “If I’m low on energy, I’ll throw in a spoonful of almond butter. If my digestion feels off, I’ll blend in ginger or pineapple.”
Callista also plans her smoothie ingredients in advance. “I chop bananas and spinach in bulk and freeze them in baggies,” she says. “That way, I just dump them into the blender in the morning.”
She’s found that having a smoothie plan makes it easier to stick to her vegan goals. “I never feel deprived,” she says. “Even on busy days, I know I can get something nutritious in my body in five minutes.”
Her tip for beginners? “Start simple, and don’t be afraid to experiment. You’ll find combinations that make you feel amazing.”
