Kali Dawn began cooking for wellness but first for comfort. Years of digestive problems had worn her thin, made her bloated, and confused.
“Nothing I ate seemed right,” she says. “I simply wanted quiet in my stomach.”
A nutritionist pointed her towards healing foods—gentle, nutrient-dense foods that soothed rather than set off her stomach. Kali shifted to soups, and things changed.
Her daily bowls evolved from food to medicine, brothy, warm, and loaded with healing spices like turmeric and ginger.
Always stressing simplicity, she piled in lentils high in fibre, soft vegetables, and fermented miso. “It was more about nourishment than about overwhelming my system,” she says.
Her digesting got better with time. The continual unease subsided to be replaced by peace. More than that, she developed a passion for cooking once more.
“I used to worry about lunch,” Kali says. I yearn for it right now. My soups bring me joy rather than only healing.
Her guidance for everyone on a gut-healing path? First with a spoon. And let every nice, healing mouthful bring comfort.
