Kairi Lovette used to dread her afternoon slump. By 3 p.m., her energy dropped, her brain fogged, and she’d reach for whatever was left in the break room—usually something greasy or overly sweet.
“I knew I needed better snacks,” she laughs, “but I wasn’t about to pack a full mezze platter every day.”
It wasn’t until she started learning more about the Mediterranean lifestyle—light oils, plant-forward meals, heart-healthy habits—that something clicked. What if she could bring that energy into her snack routine?
She started small. A handful of almonds and olives. Sliced cucumber with a dollop of hummus. A few figs wrapped in thin slices of turkey breast. Nothing fancy, but enough to keep her satisfied without the crash.
“I didn’t realize how good it would feel to eat something and still have focus after,” Kairi says.
The more she explored, the more effortless it became. Whole grain crackers with baba ganoush. A little Greek yogurt with lemon zest. Sometimes just cherry tomatoes with sea salt and olive oil. No heavy sauces. No fried fillers.
Her coworkers started to notice too—asking what she was eating, even swapping ideas. Office breaks, once a mindless scroll through social media, turned into tiny moments of joy. And the scale started to shift—not just physically, but mentally.
“Now I look forward to my snacks,” Kairi smiles. “They’re not just fuel. They’re little pauses in my day that feel…kind.”
And in a world that glorifies hustle, a kind moment in the afternoon can make all the difference.
